When will ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22 return from hiatus? What to know

Season 22 of “Grey Anatomy” is approaching its mid-season hiatus, but before the series goes on a break the hospital staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will tend to patients involved in a “catastrophic bus accident,” according to the upcoming episode’s synopsis.
The new season commenced with the hospital and its staff on a long path to recovery after a major explosion in the season premiere left multiple people injured, one character dead and caused severe damage to the structure.
The blast, caused by a cauterization tool igniting gas in an operating room, injured multiple characters, including Dr. Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack), who was the most severely injured character. The orthopedic surgeon even shared an emotional farewell phone call with his new wife, Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), but later miraculously survived.
However, Dr. Monica Beltran (Natalie Morales) was not as lucky and did not make it past the new season premiere.
Meanwhile, things continue to be tense between Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Richard (James Pickens Jr.) tests Miranda’s (Chandra Wilson) patience, according to the episode’s synopsis.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 22 will return from its hiatus on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 10 p.m. ET/ 9 p.m. CT on ABC and will be available to stream on Hulu the next day, an ABC spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY.

Season 22 of “Grey’s Anatomy” has 18 episodes, an ABC spokesperson previously confirmed to USA TODAY. The series will go on hiatus after Episode 6 airs on Nov. 13 and will return on Jan. 8, 2026, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays.
Will ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22 be on YouTube TV?
All ABC shows, including “Grey’s Anatomy” have been pulled from YouTube TV amid its ongoing contract dispute with Disney. Until it gets resolved, ABC viewers will have to tune in elsewhere.
Other streaming carriers, including Fubo TV and DirecTV, air the ABC channel live and offer free trial periods.
The matter erupted after Google-owned YouTube TV accused Disney of proposing “costly economic terms that would raise prices on YouTube TV customers” and give them “fewer choices.”
On Nov. 7, Disney executives shared a note with employees saying that it had made concessions in the negotiations, including offering YouTube TV a deal “that would cost less overall than the terms of our recently expired license.”
On Nov. 9, YouTube TV issued $20 credits for subscribers because of the disruption.
