‘Y: Marshals’ Adds 7 to Cast, Including 3 Returning Yellowstone Characters, But ONE Fans Want Is Still Missing
CBS’ Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshals is enlisting a few more stars from the original series to join lead Luke Grimes. Alums Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty and Brecken Merrill will reprise their roles as Thomas Rainwater, Mo, and Tate Dutton, respectively, on the upcoming offshoot, our sister site Variety reports. The news really doesn’t come as much of a surprise when you consider all three of the new additions played pivotal roles in Yellowstone, and with Kayce, his wife, and their son settling into their new homestead on the Broken Rock Reservation at the end of the series, it makes sense for Paramount to bring back Birmingham, Plenty, and Merrill. That being said, noticeably absent thus far has been Kelsey Asbille, who portrayed Kayce’s wife, Monica. Word has it she isn’t expected to appear in the new spinoff, with her absence being explained away in the first episode.

What Is Y: Marshals About?
In the upcoming offshoot, “with the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals,” reads the official description. In his new job, Dutton combines “his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
Who Else Will Star in Y: Marshals?
Logan Marshall-Green (And Just Like That…, Big Sky, pictured below) will star opposite Grimes as Pete Calvin, Kayce’s friend from his time in the military. Other series regulars include Arielle Kebbel (Rescue: Hi-Surf, The Vampire Diaries), Ash Santos (Pulse, Mayor of Kingstown) and Tatanka Means (Ransom Canyon), all playing U.S. Marshals. Additionally, Brett Cullen (Ransom Canyon, Person of Interest) will recur as Harry Gifford, the head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana.

What Other Yellowstone Spinoffs Are In the Works?
A series centered around Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, is coming to Paramount+. The Dutton Ranch (working title) “is a testament to the peace [Beth and Rip] sought, fought for, and nearly died for, as they’ve come to cherish their 7,000-acre land,” Deadline describes. “With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he’s supposed to be.” The cast also includes Yellowstone alum Finn Little as Beth and Rip’s son Carter, and Oscar nominee Annette Bening. Additionally, Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Fox (Lost) and Patrick J. Adams (Suits) will star in Paramount+’s offshoot The Madison, which is described as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.” The streamer also ordered 1944 all the way back in November 2023, but details about that series have yet to emerge.
